Wednesday evening I put Slade to bed. He just wasn't having it. Which is not unusal for him these days. Sleep is something I rarely come across and when I do I am more than happy! Anyhow, the first time I entered his room I inserted his paci (grrr) and walked out. Five minutes later I had to go in again. This time I turned on the light. If he doesn't quit crying within the first 10 mins he isn't going to. I just know how he is and I'd rather start over when I think he will actually sleep.
As I walked over to his crib I saw something horrible! His right ear was completely covered in blood. There was blood in his hair, across his face, on his jammies and blankets. My heart nearly stopped! The first thing I thought was that his ear was scratched but I could NOT see a scratch and with that much blood.. well.. that would have to be a big scratch! Then I grabbed him up and walked downstairs and hollered at Brandon. I told him we needed to go to the ER because Slade had blood all over him and that he could have ruptured his ear drum.
We drove over to Hazen (thank you for an ER nearby!) and waited for the Dr. to see him. Meanwhile Slade was a happy boy. Smiles and laughter all around. (Turkey!) The doc came in and peeked inside. There was a bit too much blood to see. They "cleaned" his ear as best they could in the patient room and peeked in again. His ear drums were fine! The build up and wax that he had before was gone (go me!) and the dr had a hard time seeing what the problem was. He checked everything else and his lungs were good, nose, eyes, ect. Lastly he looked in his ear one more time and he thinks he found a sore back in the ear canal.
All this. For a sore! This much blood? Jeesh. Thankful, yes. But a tiny little sore?!
He is on an antibiotic ear drops regimen and from there we are supposed to have him checked again in a few days.
I bathed him really good last night. (The ear bled again yesterday morning). I cannot see a sore. I know his little fingers didn't do it! I cut his nails Wednesday morning and if he does have a sharp nail he sure had to dig pretty far into his ear..considering I cannot visibly see the sore!
Anyway, our little guy goes to bed with socks on his hands now. He's not too happy about it but that's just tough. Until his ear is healed he will have to man-up and deal with it. :) He's tough. His name is Slade. He HAS to be tough! ;)
So that's how it ends. All is well with him but quite the scare he gave us! (For the record, Brandon even thought it was alot of blood and you all know how Brandon is about going to the Dr. He's not so much of a fan of it!)
